About Katlyn
Katlyn's research focus pertains to a novel, highly controlled phage display system and its extension to other phages. Katlyn is also assisting in the delivery of the nation’s first Medical Microbiology Laboratory offered by a Pharmacy program, as well as the founder and primary developer of the School’s new global volunteer network initiative.
Katlyn recently completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo in the Science and Business/Biology Co-op program and is now focusing on her Masters degree in order to pursue a future in scientific research, specifically global public health.
Through the Co-op program, Katlyn gained invaluable industry experience that has contributed to her personal and professional development and has allowed her to hone essential leadership, critical thinking, and independent project management capabilities that will undoubtedly prove essential during the next phase of her professional studies.
In addition to her studies, she continues to pursue many voluntary positions in the areas of teaching and event management and acts as a senior advisor and alumna on various committees at UW. Katlyn has also gained beneficial and enjoyable teaching experience in both lecturer and laboratory demonstrator roles.
Throughout her undergraduate career she also had the opportunity to be involved at the university, faculty, and program levels and finally on an individual course basis through various volunteers positions, all of which exposed her to different mentors, and personal development and contribution opportunities. It is from these experiences that Katlyn hopes to be continually involved in the University of Waterloo and surrounding community and also to take part in new endeavours at the School of Pharmacy.
Katlyn’s latest project involved working with the Dean of Science Office and the Science and Business program in liaison with the Departments of Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences and Physics and Astronomy as Associate Editor of the first edition of Discover Our World, Magazine of the Waterloo Physical Sciences.
